Anisotropic “ charge - flipping ” acceleration of highly charged ions from ( N 2 ) n clusters in strong optical fields

چکیده
The disassembly of molecular clusters (N 2) n (n=50-3000) in strong optical fields is investigated using two-dimensional time-of-flight spectrometry. Very highly charged ions are formed with a two-component energy distribution. A low-energy, isotropic component correlates with Coulomb explosion. A high-energy, anisotropic component, that results from a " charge flipping " acceleration mechanism, gives rise to ions with energies in excess of the Coulombic limit.

The Standard Model in Strong Fields: Electroweak Radiative Corrections for Highly Charged Ions
Electroweak radiative corrections to the matrix elements 〈ns1/2|ĤPNC|n′p1/2〉 are calculated for highly charged hydrogenlike ions. These matrix elements constitute the basis for the description of the most parity nonconserving (PNC) processes in atomic physics. The operator ĤPNC represents the parity nonconserving relativistic effective atomic Hamiltonian at the tree level. The deviation of thes...

In this research, structural and electronic properties of ZnCdn-1Ten clusters (n=1-10) have been studied by formalism of density functional theory and using the projector augmented wave within local density approximation. The structural properties (such as bond length/angle and coordination number), electronic and optical properties (such as binding energy, Kohn-Sham spect...
متن کاملExplosions of water clusters in intense laser fields
Energetic, highly-charged oxygen ions, Oq+ (q ≤ 6), are copiously produced upon laser field-induced disassembly of highly-charged water clusters, (H2O)n and (D2O)n, n ∼ 60, that are formed by seeding high-pressure helium or argon with water vapor. Arn clusters (n∼40000) formed under similar experimental conditions are found undergo disassembly in the Coulomb explosion regime, with the energies ...
متن کاملRadiative Acceleration and Transient, Radiation-induced Electric Fields
The radiative acceleration of particles and the electrostatic potential fields that arise in low density plasmas hit by radiation produced by a transient, compact source are investigated. We calculate the dynamical evolution and asymptotic energy of the charged particles accelerated by the photons and the radiation-induced electric double layer in the full relativistic, Klein-Nishina regime. Fo...
متن کاملDirect observation of ion evaporation from a triply charged nanodroplet.
Triply charged, highly solvated metal ions of the form [Ln(H(2)O)(n)](3+) can be generated using a commercial mass spectrometer, and CID studies on these highly charged metal-solvent clusters allow for the direct observation of a process best described as ion evaporation.
